DH’s mojos

socks No Comments

I have been meaning to update this blog for ages but am only just getting round to it.   DH’s pc has broken and he’s ordered a new one from Dell.  Talk about incompetence .. the saga requires a blog post all to its self.   So he’s had to use my pc in the meantime.

I finished these mojos a few weeks ago.  I cast on 80 stitches and did them exactly the same as the other pair. The yarn was Schachenmayr nomotta Regia Multi Effekt Colour.

Tiger socks

socks No Comments

I made myself a pair of tiger socks using Opal rainforest and the violet green sock generator.   I was inspired by a pair I saw made by Wovenflame on Ravelry who had added claws to the toes.   Mine are a bit scruffy looking but they will do.

I have just started a pair for Dylan.

Jules socks for me!

socks No Comments

I have made myself a pair of socks using the sock blank that I dyed and the Jules pattern.  It was really interesting seeing which colour would come next.

Once I have got rid of some of the projects in my queue I am going to dye another sock blank or I may just try my hand at dyeing some yarn instead.

Waffle socks

I made MIL a pair of socks for Xmas using the Jules pattern and ONline Supersocke 100 holiday colours yarn.  The pattern is so easy and interesting and the socks fit lovely.  I like it so much I have started a pair for myself using my sock blank yarn.

Sock blank Adventures

Uncategorized, socks 2 Comments

I have always had a passion for dyeing things, usually tie and dye on clothing.  When I discovered sock blanks I thought they were a really clever idea.  I bought one from Sock Blanks UK which is lovely and soft and she included 3 sachets of kool aid as well.

First I soaked my sock blank in distilled vinigar while I messed about with food colourings.  I tried to make a purple but couldn’t manage it.  It was hard to tell what colours I had made as I only had coloured dishes spare until I put them on the blank.

I then laid cling film on the floor and put my sock blank on top of it.  I used an old brush to apply the colours.  I was going to use my turkey baster but it kept dripping everywhere.  I enjoyed doing it although Dylan wasn’t very happy being locked out of the kitchen.

I then rolled the blank up in the cling film and put it in my steamer for half an hour.  I was worried it might felt on the outside but be cold in the middle but when I opened it it was fine.

I unrolled the cling film and left it to cool before rinsing it.  I was very surprised that only a tiny bit of dye came out when I rinsed it.  I was expecting to be rinsing for half an hour.

I am really happy with the finished result and can’t wait to start knitting it into socks.  I will definitely be doing it again although I think I will wear gloves next time. :)

Toddler spiral socks

I wanted to use up some of my sock yarn leftovers so used the stashbuster spiral pattern as an idea.  I didn’t follow the pattern,  just used the idea of the stripes.  I am pleased with how these turned out as I never would have thought of the idea myself.  I used 4 different yarns altogether.

Little Mojos for a little MOFO

While I was between projects I made Dylan a pair of mojos.  I cast on 44 stitches and did them top down.  I am definitely going to make him more pairs of these as they fit so well.  I am going to make myself a pair first though.

Another pair of Moc-a-socks

socks 1 Comment

I have been making Dylan another pair of moc-a-socks using Trekking XXL used doubled throughout for extra warmth.  I used zig zag yarn for the faux sock part.  These feel much better quality than the other pair that I knitted so should last him a while as there is plenty of growing room.
