Urbanista hat

Uncategorized, hats 1 Comment

I saw the Urbanista hat on Ravelry and wanted to give it a try.  I can honestly say it was the most difficult thing I have ever knitted.  I had to restart 4 or 5 times as I couldn’t get the hang of it.

I was reading too much into the pattern instead of just following it.   I thought the 6 pieces had to be done separately and then grafted together at first.  It was only after I finished the first piece that I realised they didn’t.

Once I had done the second piece I found it quite easy to do.

I did mine so that it was stocking stitch on the right side instead of reverse stocking stitch.

I learned a lot from that pattern including wraps and turns and a crochet cast on.

DH loves it and Dylan wants me to make him one too.

Dh’s fish hat

hats No Comments

I finished this a while ago but have only just got round to taking the pics off my camera.  I used the size needles the pattern called for and it fitted fine which I was surprised about.

The hat is almost identical to Dylan’s but with slight variations where I put the colours.

Fish hat

I have been knitting Dylan a fish hat using the Fish hat pattern from knitty. I used cheap acrylic and bought some stick on eyes instead of making my own.

I really enjoyed making it, the pattern was brilliant and very easy to follow.  Dylan loves it. :)

I have just started one for DH.

Rainbow Helmet

hats No Comments

Dylan won’t wear a scarf and his coat leaves a gap round the back of his neck so I knitted him a balaclava type hat with a long neck collar.  I used Lorna’s Laces rainbow worsted and the Toddler’s knitted helmet pattern.

I did more ribbing around the face as I wanted more coverage.  I love the way the yarn has pooled in the ribbing around the face.

Dylan wore it to the hospital today.  He had croup and the doctor sent us up the hospital with him.  He had to have a nebulizer treatment and screamed throughout it which the doctor said is a good thing as it gets inhaled deep into the lungs.  Luckily it worked so he was allowed home tonight.  :)

Berry baby hats

I am making some little things for DH’s friend who’s wife is having twins, a boy and a girl.  So far I have made a rasperry hat and a blueberry one.  I used the Berry baby hat pattern and Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo.  I hope they will be big enough as I have forgotten what size a newborn baby’s head is.

Toasty topper hat

I have knitted Dylan a Toasty Topper hat with built in scarf for the Winter. I used some Woolcraft Aran doubled. I made a bobble for the top which turned out massive. Dylan kept crying when I tried it on him because I think he knew he looked a fool. :)

The first pictures are before I gave the bobble a good trim.

After the bobble was trimmed.

Another Bamboozled

I have had 5 projects on the go for the last few days. I have a cardigan, a jumper and a noro scarf. I have just finished another Bamboozled headband as I love my other one so much. I did this one in an aran weight yarn so it feels much better quality than the other one.

Calorimetry

I bought a few balls of yarn from the Sheep shop in St Annes yesterday.

I have finished knitting a calorimetry using Noro silk garden lite. It’s the first time I have tried Noro and am very impressed with the lovely colours. The yarn is a bit scratchy though. I really am going to have to knit something else using it as the colour changes are so impressive.

The calorimetry pattern is so easy to do and it fitted me perfectly. I used 4mm needles and the Noro was double knitting when the pattern was written for larger needles and aran thickness yarn. I can’t wait for winter so I can wear it.

I am still working on my jaywalkers but should have them finished tomorrow.

Bamboozled

I knitted myself a bamboozled last week. It was an easy pattern but as each line was different I had to pay attention. It took less than 50g of Sirdar Luxury Soft Cotton DK which I only paid 50p for.

Earflap hat

hats No Comments

I knitted DH a hat with earflaps. We admired one that our friend Nicola bought a while back and have been looking for a similar pattern. I knit it the first time on a 6.5mm circular needle when the pattern called for a 6mm one but it was massive so had to rip back and start again. I only had 6mm straight needles so had to use them and join at the back. The hat was the perfect size for DH. Who would have thought half a cm would make such a difference….

I used the knitted toque with earflaps pattern It only took me a couple of hours from start to finish. I used Sirdar Denim Ultra yarn which is lovely and soft and a pleasure to work with. I didn’t do the colour changes and only used just over one ball of yarn. I will probably knit one for Dylan towards the end of the Summer when I know what size his head will be then. dscn2745.jpg
